The Contemporary Art Society was appointed by Design for London and Newham Council to curate artworks that would enhance the public realm improvements on Stratford High Street.
We were approached and appointed by the Society to design and install facing parapets for Groves Bridge, situated in East London.
The diversity of the area provided us with the inspiration to create an inclusive design pulling in heritage from across the world. We researched extensively and decided upon representing the varying communities organically. Trees were picked from six different continents — the final selection were considered the most revered from each continent.
We displayed six tree tops on one side with its roots on the other facing side of the bridge. A pattern was included within the design to provide a sense of movement within the trees as well as openness from foreground to the rich landscape behind.
